Welcome to BurkeEco!

BurkeEco is our commitment to continue doing business in ways that are good for our community and the planet.

Being environmentally friendly is a responsibility we must all take on. At Burke, we wanted to do more than simply follow environmental regulations. As we do in all areas of our business, we wanted to go further. The bulk of our green initiatives are not enforced by our municipality. They were born at Burke and enforced by our team.

Thank You for Choosing Plastic’s Free Marketing

In recent years, people have started cutting down on plastic consumption. We have realised the effects plastic can have on the environment and our oceans. Thanks to this realization, many businesses have made the environmentally friendly move from plastics, to paper-based packaging and marketing.

Unlike 100% recyclable paper, plastic cannot be absorbed back into the environment and the amount of plastic in the ocean continues to grow – affecting wildlife and humans alike.

Most scientists estimate that eight million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year – adding to the estimated 150 million metric tons currently circulating our oceans.

With BurkeEco, our goal is to promote the benefits of paper-based marketing and the detrimental effects plastics have on the environment. So, our first step in initiating change is to say thank you. Thank you for choosing to work with a plastics free business. Thank you for choosing environmentally friendly marketing tactics. And thank you for helping BurkeEco begin our environmentally friendly journey. We are so excited to see where this mission will take us and what sort of positive change we can bring about together!

Of the 8.3 billion metric tons that have been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons have become plastic waste. Of that, only 9% has been recycled.

Our vendors reuse most of the pallets that are supplied to Burke. Broken pallets are collected and broken down for fuel.

Packaging Reduction

By working with our suppliers, we have slashed our packaging footprint. This initiative has reduced 20,047 square feet of cardboard and over 1 acre of plastic going to landfills each year.

The Fact: Most of the energy used is renewable and carbon intensity is surprisingly low and only responsible for about 0.5% of the total U.S. CO2e emissions in 2016. In addition, Burke uses eco friendly inks and paper, water-based coatings and low energy machinery, to ensure our manufacturing and products are as environmentally sustainable as possible.
